Basic Manicure

If you have polish and top coat/ base coat you can give yourself a salon quality manicure. You can spend years perfecting it – but here is my easy, 5 minute manicure.

How to give yourself a manicure:

  1. Start with clean nails, I like to go over my nails with polish remover before starting a manicure. Paint on a thin layer of base coat to protect your nails.

  2. Apply a THIN layer of color, if you make this layer too thick you’ll get little bubbles and/or the next coat will look lumpy. It’s ok if this coat isn’t perfect, you just want to quickly get color on every nail. I start with a line down the middle of the nail and then swipe each side.

*Paint your thumbs last – they are the easiest tool to clean up any polish that ends up around your nail. You can use a q-tip dipped in polish remover, but I think it’s just so much easier to do that with your thumbs.

  3. Apply a second layer of color, this layer should still be thin, but you can also fill in any empty space or translucent areas.

  4. After 1-3 minutes paint on a layer of top coat. Make sure to get the whole nail – feel free to do 2 layers of top coat. I like to use quick dry drops to speed the process. You can also try using a hair dryer – make sure it’s set to cool air. Another trick is to wait 2 minutes and then run your nails under very cold water.

Once your nails have had a few minutes to dry use a nail tool or q-tip dipped in polish remover to neaten up any mistakes.
