Julienne is just a fancy word for long thin strips. It sounds and looks fancy but it’s very simple.

How to Julienne

To julienne a carrot start with a clean, peeled carrot (I’m saying carrot but you can julienne all sorts of fruits and vegetables) a sharp knife, and a cutting board.

  1. If you are using a carrot or any thing that could roll cut a slice off one side so you have a nice even surface to work with – it’s important to do this step and create a flat side because a rolling carrot could lead to an injury.

  2. If you’re using a long vegetable like a carrot cut it in half or in thirds so you have a manageable area to work with.

  3. Cut into long slices.

  4. Stack some of the slices and cut again to create long thin strips.

Voila – you’ve just julienned a carrot!
